How to Make Children Excel

Whether children are struggling in academics or doing just fine, helping them to excel is a primary goal for any teacher. Having a plan and workable suggestions aids in the pursuit of this goal. Teachers need to prepare to offer motivation and assistance to students. By providing these key elements, educators will help their students move beyond simple comprehension of topics to mastery of the subject.

Instructions

    • 1

Provide students with intrinsic motivation. A key component of student success is the value they place on education. Outline course objectives and learning goals upfront, then provide students with opportunities to help plan learning activities and subjects. If students feel they have an opinion on what and how they learn, they will be more motivated. This feeling of self-empowerment combined with knowing what is expected, will help them excel at academics.

    • 2

Give students plenty of external motivation. This motivation comes from you and other peers who influence the student. For younger students, it can be the opportunity to get a sticker or be praised in front of other students. Anything you can think of that will be viewed as a reward for trying hard, will motivate students to go above and beyond in their work.

    • 3

Teach to multiple learning styles. Plan for using various techniques and methods in your lessons. There are three main learning styles: aural, visual and kinesthetic. You need to keep in mind that not all students learn best when being taught in only one method. Mixing up these styles and using as many as you can in lessons will accommodate all students. It will allow them to excel in comprehension as opposed to lessons which use single styles.

    • 4

Offer assistance to students whether they are struggling or not. Make sure you communicate regularly with children to gain an understanding of how they are doing in your classroom. Set up regular tutoring sessions or form study groups. Any extra help or practice when it comes to learning new skills will be positive and help students excel.
