How to Build a Kids' Stage & Curtains

If you are a teaching young children, you may decide that a good way to get them engaged in literature is to have them put on a play in the classroom for other students and parents. But if you're going to put on a play, you'll need a stage and curtains. You might think this would require a different location, but you can easily set up a small stage inside the classroom that can be quickly disabled and removed. In addition, this is a one-time investment that can be used again in years to come.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 square grocery store wood pallets (without gaps)
  • 4 large C-clamps
  • Rotary sander
  • Black paint
  • Brushes
  • 8 long single-rod clothing rack on wheels, slightly longer that the length of each pallet
  • 8 opaque red shower curtains
  • Shower curtain snap-on rings
  • Rope

Instructions

    • 1

Sand and paint the wooden palettes. Let the pallets fully dry

    • 2

Lay the four pallets together on the floor to form a square. At each middle point of the square where the pallets meet, place a C-clamp to hold the parts of the stage together. You now have a stage.

    • 3

Roll in your long clothing racks and place them around the stage. You should have one clothing rack in front of each outward-facing side of the pallets.

    • 4

Place your shower curtains on the racks using the snap on rings. To the furtherest right shower curtain ring of the left curtain facing the audience, tie one piece of rope. Run the rope through the other rings to the left so you can pull on the rope to open the curtain.

    • 5

Mirror the procedure in Step 4 with the curtain on the right. You are now ready for the players.
