Give each student a blank piece of construction paper, glue, markers, stickers and magazines. Ask the students to create a collage for the departing student. This could be based on their friendship with the student, certain things that happened in class, or resemblant of the student's personality. When all collages are completed, assemble them in a memory scrapbook for the departing student.
Provide the class with a blank canvas, and give each student one color of paint. Ask each student to make a few strokes on the canvas, working together to create a painting. The class can plan what they'd like to create, or they can create as they go. When the painting is complete, take a picture of the class holding the painting. Give the painting to the departing student, along with the picture of their class.
Break the students into small groups and give each a disposable camera. Ask the students to take pictures of themselves, the school and the community. After the pictures are developed, task the class to work together to create a picture collage for the departing student. Mount this collage on cork board, adhere it to a large piece of card stock or put it in a more formal frame.
This digital craft will allow the departing student to keep in touch with her classmates. Open a Tumblr account for the class. Take photographs at important school or class activities. Encourage students to write notes that can be uploaded, and create special uploads for holidays. This way, no matter where she is, the student can keep in touch with her old class.
