What exactly is a schoolhouse?
A schoolhouse is a building specifically designed and used for the purpose of educating children. While the term is often associated with older, smaller, and possibly more rural schools, it can technically refer to any building where schooling takes place, although "school" is now more commonly used. Historically, schoolhouses were often one-room buildings with a single teacher instructing students of multiple ages and grade levels. Today, the term might evoke a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time in education, even when referring to larger modern buildings that still serve the same basic function.
