How to Do a Scholastic Reading Inventory Test Demo

Prepare students for the Scholastic Reading Inventory test by taking a practice test. The practice test is made up of three questions, presented in the same way as questions found on the actual test. Scholastic warns that questions on the SRI practice test are designed to be easier than the actual questions on the test. When taking a practice test, students learn how to use the computer software and how to follow the SRI directions. How students perform on the practice test does not count towards the score of the actual exam.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the instructions. This is the first screen students see in the practice test. The directions explain how to select answers, proceed to the next question or skip a question. Have students click "Next" when done reading the directions.

    • 2

Tell students to read the paragraph. Paragraphs in the practice test are typically four or five sentences long and can be fiction or non-fiction.

    • 3

Instruct students to read the question underneath the paragraph. Questions are either fill-in-the-blank or cloze questions.

    • 4

Ask students to read the four multiple-choice answers and then select the one that best answers the question. Students should click the bubble next to the selected answer. Click "Next" when done. If students opt to skip the question, simply press the "Skip" button. All three questions in the practice test can be skipped. If a student answered a question incorrectly, a new window opens, telling the student to ask the teacher for help. Press "OK" to give students another chance to answer the question correctly.
