Arrange the colored paper sheets in the order they are to appear in the book.
Starting with the left end of the first sheet, measure over 1 inch and use the pencil to mark. Do this with the other sheets of paper.
Measure and mark the center of each piece of paper.
Start with the right-hand sheet of paper. Paint glue on the 1-inch area at the left-hand edge of the paper.
Take the paper that is second to the right and place the right-hand edge over the glue area. Line up the top and bottom of the papers. The right-hand edge lines up with the 1-inch mark.
Repeat this process with the remaining papers working from right to left.
Allow the glue to dry.
Start at the right-hand end of the now glued papers and fold the first paper to the left, lining up the center mark. This is to make a fan or accordion fold.
Lift the folded edge formed in the above step and fold it under, matching up the folded edge with the other edge of this first sheet of paper.
Repeat the process for each of the other sheets of paper.
Crease all of the folded edges. Place a heavy book on the pages and leave while cleaning up the work area.
Remove the book and set it aside. Paper clip the pages together, leaving out the right- and left-hand pages.
Lay the sheet of card stock on the work surface.
Set the pages on the card stock. Glue the right-hand end page and press against the card stock.
Fold the other end of the card stock up over the pages and crease.
Paint glue on the left-hand end of the pages, then press the folded up card stock on the glue. Place a book on the project and allow the glue to dry.
Remove the book and trim the card stock to fit the book edges evenly or allow extra to hang over the edges.
Open the book flat. The pages may push up away from the backing but that is what gives it the butterfly name.
