How to Convert Gallons to Quarts

Gallons and quarts measure volumes of liquid such as gasoline, milk and water in the American system of units. The word "gallon" comes from the Roman word "galeta," and originally meant a pailful. The name "quart" flows from how each quart equals 0.25 gallons. It takes four quarts to equal one gallon, so you can use either multiplication or division to convert from gallons to quarts.
