Maintaining good health and wellness is a topic many are concerned with, not only to reach a healthy weight, but also to promote longevity. If writing a paper on health and wellness, it will be important to choose an angle you can explore within the confines of the paper and provide adequate research on as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Define your terms. Many people use the words "health" or "healthy" pertaining to your bodily functions and presence or absence of illness. Wellness, on the other hand, is a more general term that refers to how a person feels overall, both physically and mentally. Many in the medical profession use the terms wellness to draw a connection between your general health and your mental health. Define how you will be using the terms "health" and "wellness" in your paper to help the reader understand your points and make connections in your ideas.

    • 2

Choose an angle. A paper on health and wellness can be broad or narrow. A broad paper may focus on basic elements that affect one's health, like diet and exercise and the benefits of these. A more narrowly focused paper may focus on how eating fruit everyday may increase your overall wellness. As such, it will be important to choose an angle that you can research easily and write about in a condensed amount of space. An approach that is too broad may be too difficult to draw any specific conclusions from, while a paper that is too narrow may be difficult for others to relate to.

    • 3

Create your thesis statement. If your paper is based on research or a theory pertaining to health and wellness, you will need to state this in your beginning paragraph. Your thesis is one or two sentences that summarize what your argument is and helps to guide your entire paper, as each paragraph will support your argument with different information. For example, your thesis may be that eating fruit every day helps to improve health and wellness by helping your body to fight off diseases and promoting energy, which in turn may lead people to exercise more and feel better about themselves.

    • 4

Write your supporting paragraphs. Your subsequent paragraphs will include research supporting your thesis. Your paper will also need to address arguments against your argument, or counterarguments. You may devote the first paragraphs to how eating fruit everyday affects your health, and following paragraphs to how this may contribute to your overall wellness, including one paragraph addressing counterarguments. It's important to show your reader you know and understand all sides of the issue you're writing about. Be sure to stay within the confines of how you defined "health" and "wellness" earlier.

Draw your conclusions. To end your paper, you may find that making recommendations is an appropriate approach. You may list ways that people can incorporate fruits into their diets or note any overall connections between health and wellness you would like to make.
