Some preschools purchase needed supplies with tuition and fees taken from the parents. However, nearly all preschool children are required to bring a resting mat and change of clothes to leave at the school. Some preschools ask students to bring safety scissors, washable markers, crayons, primary paper, washable school glue/glue sticks, tissues and baby wipes.
When thinking about the basic school supplies used in the classroom, most people immediately begin thinking of items listed on an elementary supply list. Elementary school students often use the most school supplies; however, the supplies are typically inexpensive. Items found on a basic elementary level school supply list include: pencils, crayons, scissors, markers, paper, folders, glue and a backpack.
Middle school students often need fewer art-oriented supplies and more supplies geared toward academic work. The supplies that can be found on a basic list for middle school students include: pencils, paper, folders, calculators, math tools (compass and protractor), colored pencils and a daily planner. While some of the same supplies can be found on the elementary and middle school list, middle teachers are often more specific about sizes, colors and brands than elementary school teachers.
The basic school supply list used in high school covers required courses such as math and English. Other supplies may be needed depending on electives and specialty courses taken. Chemistry, art, drafting and vocational classes often have their own supply list. Most high school students, regardless of their course schedule, will need college rule paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, three-ring binders, dividers, folders, scientific or graphing calculator, computer access, a daily planner and index cards.
