School Assembly Resources

Planning a school assembly can be a daunting task. There is the initial choice of the topic, picking the day to have the event and the hassle of finding presenters. However, there are many resources to help planning go smoother and help you find who is willing to do a school assembly. From websites to local businesses, there are a number of ways to find an interesting speaker for your school assembly.
  1. PTO Today

    • PTO Today's website hosts a mock Yellowpages site. Under the Arts and Entertainment heading, there are several locations to choose from by region. Performers are listed who are willing to do school appearances. A few possible presentations include scientific demonstrators, historic music presenters and shows geared towards teaching children social duties like getting along with others. Many services listed do all the planning of the show and bring their own materials; you just need to say when.

    Your Local Municipality

    • In many communities, the local fire station or police department is always willing to come and give safety talks. Firefighters will come with safety devices for children to know about, such as the smoke detector. Many presenters will show videos about topics like fire safety. Firefighters may even have children look through a fire truck or police officers may have children look through police cars. Children get to see something interesting and learn about safety at the same time. If such a service is not offered, call your local city hall to try and set it up.

    Drug Abuse Resistance Education

    • Chances are, if you live the United States, you have a local Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. These concerned citizens are often willing to put on school assemblies as well. They offer engaging shows designed to help children stay away from drugs. If you do not have a local chapter, there is a link on the organization's website to help you start one.

    Local Not-For-Profits

    • Your local museum can be a source of assembly speakers. Many museums typically know local artists or historical experts willing to speak at schools. Any local nature center staff may also be willing to come and talk to the school about wildlife and preservation.
