The TI-83 calculator is a graphing calculator that enables students to solve advanced mathematical problems. Some problems that will be solved are algebraic, and require solving for certain values. You will find basic algebra equations requesting you to solve for "x", and giving you a "y" value. While it is possible to solve these equations by hand, the TI-83 makes the process more convenient. You can input the given "y" value into your calculator in order to solve problems with ease.

1
Write out your given problem, and find the "y" value. For our problem we will graph a simple function, where the "y" value is "4", it appears as "y=4."
-
2
Power on your calculator, and press the "Clear" function to erase any previous work.
-
-
3
Press "Y=" and press "Clear" to erase any previous equations in the "Y=" function.
-
4
Enter in your problem, including the indicated "y" value in the first slot "\Y1." Our example would appear as "\Y1=4."
