How to Solve Percent of Change

Percent of change is used to determine the percentage difference between two values of a quantity. For instance, if there are 30 students in a class and 2 new students join the class, increasing the class strength to 32, then you can calculate the percent of change from 30 to 32. The formula for determining the percent of change is: "(amount of change)/(original value) x 100."

  Write down the original value and the changed value. Using the same example, the original value is "30" and the changed value is "32."

  Find the difference between the two values to determine the amount of change. The difference between 32 and 30 is 2.

  Divide the amount of change by the original value and multiply the answer by 100. Dividing 2 by 30 gets you .067. Multiplying the answer by 100 gives you 6.7. Since the answer is to be expressed in percentage, you can write that the percent difference in the strength of class is 6.7 percent.
