A Science Project on Film

Science fair projects can be enjoyable to watch on film to see what kind of outcome the project has. Sometimes you'll want to record the process your project is going through to have accurate information for your records if you have more than one experiment happening at the same time.
  1. Swimming Raisins

    • A simple science project that can be recorded can be done by watching how raisins react in different variables. Record what happens after you fill a jar with 1/2 cup of vinegar and the remainder with water. Mix both ingredients together, and add 2 tbsp. of baking soda and stir. Bubbles should form a few minutes after you mix the ingredients together. If bubbles do not form, add a little more vinegar. Once the bubbles are there, add one raisin at a time and watch what happens. The raisins will sink before rising and sinking again.

    Carbonated Drinks on Meat

    • Another project that can be recorded to show what occurs is watching what happens when Coca Cola is added to steak, chicken breast and salmon. Clean three bowls, and place 300 g of fresh steak in one, 300 g of fresh chicken breast in another and in the last bowl put 300 g of fresh salmon. Now pour 12 oz. bottles of Coca Cola in each bowl to ensure the meat is completely immersed in the carbonated drink. For the next five days watch what happens and record the results.

Cinnamon Oil as Natural Insect Repellent

    • Find 20 ants, 20 cockroaches, 20 mosquitoes and 20 flies, and place them in different containers. Peel four bananas, cut them in half and apply cinnamon oil on one-half of each banana. Don't apply the cinnamon oil to the other half of the banana. Place one banana, both halves, in four different fish tanks. Release ants in one tank, cockroaches into the second tank, mosquitoes in the third tank and flies into the last tank, and put the lid on top. Place a camera in front of each tank to record which insects go towards the banana covered in cinnamon oil and which ones go to the plain banana for an hour.

    Baking Soda and Vinegar Rocket

    • A rocket can be created by using a film canister, baking soda and vinegar. Remove the lid from the film canister, and pack it with baking soda. Pour 2 tsp. of vinegar on the baking soda. Very carefully put the lid back onto the canister, and ensure it is snapped close. Place the canister up-side down on cement outside and walk away from it. The canister should take off like a rocket a few seconds later.
