How to Make a Cute Jacket or Book Cover for a Report

A school report may be mostly facts and figures, but you can add a creative flair to your project by dressing up the report in a jacket or book cover. Book covers and jackets not only add visual appeal, but they also help to protect your report from dust, dirt, stray marks and spills. Creating a cover for your report is a simple process that you can accomplish with a few basic supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your report folder on a large piece of construction paper.

    • 2

Trace the report folder onto the construction paper.

    • 3

Lift the folder and place it next to the first tracing. Leave about a 1/4-inch space between the first tracing and the area in which you will perform the second tracing. Trace it once more so that you have two adjacent rectangles that represent the size of the folder.

    • 4

Draw a rectangle on the left side of the first tracing and on the right side of the second tracing. Use a ruler to keep your lines straight. Make the rectangles the same length as the two tracings and approximately 1/4 of each tracing's width. For example, if the report folder is 8 inches across, the overlap would be about 2 inches in width.

    • 5

Cut out the completed drawing as one piece. This should include the two tracings of the folder and the overlaps on either side.

    • 6

Open the folder and place the center of the folder's back in the 1/4-inch space between the two largest rectangles on your drawing.

    • 7

Fold the left overlap over the left side of the folder and the right overlap over the right side of the folder.

    • 8

Add decorations to your report jacket by using crayons, markers and stickers.
