Fun Social Skills & Activities for Valentine's Day

On February 14th each year, people celebrate Valentine's Day by giving each other candy, flowers and cards to show their love. Individuals want to interact with each other on this day in celebration of this love. This interaction can be as simple as exchanging Valentine's Day presents, to something more elaborate such as going out for a nice meal together. Students can play fun games for the holiday in their classroom and families can find time to put together a special Valentine's Day craft or meal.
  1. Cards

    • The most popular activity originating from St. Valentine himself is the exchanging of cards on Valentine's Day. This activity involves everyone from students at school to individuals in love with each other. Some people choose to buy preprinted cards and others choose to create their own using construction paper, lace and ribbons. To make this a social activity, students can take their finished cards and then hand deliver them to a nursing home on Valentine's Day. The residents will appreciate the interaction and thoughtfulness on the holiday.

    Crafts

    • Sharing love for each other can be as simple as putting together a special Valentine's Day craft. Parents and children can work together to make something special for the family, such as a family collage. The collage can include special pictures of the family doing things together and it can also include hearts cut out of red and pink construction paper. The completed collage can be hung on a wall or placed in the center of the dining room table. The family can then look at it together during the Valentine's Day holiday to remember their love for each other.

    Food

    • Food always brings people together on holidays. Some couples choose to make reservations at nice restaurants to celebrate the holiday. Others choose to make fun food at home, such as making heart shaped pizzas with different toppings. Simply make a pizza, but shape the crust into a heart instead of a circle. Another idea is to make heart shaped cookies. This can be done by buying a heart shaped cookie cutter and cutting the dough into hearts. Everyone can then decorate their own cookies with pink, red or white frosting and sprinkles.

    Treasure Hunts

    • Treasure hunts provide a fun and social activity for children or adults when they compete in teams. The only items needed are construction paper, a pen and a special prize for the winning team. Use red or pink paper to write down clues for teams to follow. Each team leader receives the first clue which leads the team on a hunt around a house, yard or school. At the end of the hunt, the winning team can find a special Valentine's Day present as the ultimate prize. This could be a special party or a dinner for the winners.
