Meet one-on-one with each person you are coaching. You might have more than one student, child or adult that you are coaching in a particular sport, art or lifestyle. Discuss the various aspects of leadership that you will be sharing. Explain that as a leader, you are going to help each person realize her potential through hard work, practice, and dedication.
Work with students one-on-one and have each show you his skills and what he already has accomplished. As he shows you his skills, evaluate him against what you know as a professional in the sport or industry.
Sit down with the student after she has showcased her abilities and you have evaluated her. Be honest and frank with her and explain to her what you have seen her accomplish and what you believe she is capable of accomplishing in the future.
Create and present to the student a plan for how he can accomplish the goals that you have helped him set. Explain to him the future that you see him having and talk to him about how you will help him gain the level you would like him to achieve.
Set a work schedule for coaching the student in the subject. Plan to work at least once per week on whatever the sport or activity is. As you set a schedule, set the goals that you would like the student to achieve.
Observe the student at each of the practices and chart her progress. Coaching with leadership means that you are talking to her after each of the practices that she has and discussing the various good things you see her doing, as well as the negative aspects of what she is doing. Share with her how you see her progressing in the future.
