The front of each jersey should be a single color (or white) from the bottom of the neckline, across to the armholes and to the bottom of the jersey. Locker tags or manufacturer’s logos on the bottom corner of the jersey should not be visible; and jerseys with tags should be tucked in. Team and school names are permitted on the front of the jersey at least 1 inch above the number. Names can be on more than one line and should use horizontal lettering.
The back of the uniform must be the same color as the front. A visible manufacturer’s tag or logo is not permitted. Team or school names or a player’s name can be printed on the back of each jersey. Lettering should be horizontal and must be at least 1 inch above the number.
Trim on the jersey should not be more than 1 inch wide around the neck and arm holes. Side inserts of any color or design are acceptable but may be no more than 4 inches wide and should be centered below the arm hole. They have to be the same width for all jerseys, regardless of size.
The number on the front of a player’s jersey should be at least 4 inches tall and 3/4 inches wide; on the back the same number must be at least 6 inches tall. The number has to be centered on the front and back of the jersey. No more than three colors can be used for a jersey number and should be “plain, Arabic numerals,” according to the NFHS guide. The number style on the back should be identical to the number on the front of the jersey. The league has a list of acceptable jersey numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 00, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55 but a team may not have numbers 0 and 00 on the roster at the same time.
Memorial or commemorative patches are allowed on jerseys. Patches must be less than 4 square inches in size. The patch can only be placed on the front of the jersey above the neckline or on the side insert.
