"Math Man" gives third graders the opportunity to brush up on multiplication, division, addition and subtraction skills. In a style based off the classic arcade game "Pac Man," players use computer arrow keys to guide their characters through a series of dot-filled mazes pursued by ghosts. After a player eats a dot with a question mark inside of it, a number appears on each of the ghosts. The player must solve the equation on the screen and eat the ghost that has the correct answer on it. Coming into contact with the wrong ghost results in a lost life.
"Math War," a classroom game for two players, requires only a deck of cards. Remove the face cards and jokers from the deck, and then deal face down to both players, giving each person an even number of cards. The game begins with both players flipping over the top cards from their stacks at the same time. The first player to shout out the correct answer of the two cards multiplied together wins both cards. If a player answers incorrectly, the other person receives the cards. The game ends when one of the players has all of the cards.
"Mathino," based on the rules of the card game "Casino," works best with two to five players. The game begins with the dealer handing out four cards to each player, and then placing four cards face up in the middle. When a player's turn comes, he has three options: discard from his hand into the pile, draw a card from the pile that matches a card he has in his hand or draw two or more cards from the pile that add up to form the sum of a card he has in his hand. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the game.
Students choose from addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems in this basketball-themed online game. Players must successfully answer randomly generated math problems five times in a row to earn five foul shots. Foul shots are a separate activity that requires the player to accurately line up the ball in the crosshairs to make the shot. Each foul shot is worth five points, while each correctly answered problem is worth 10 points. The player's running score is kept at the top of the screen over the course of the game.
