Read "The Three Little Pigs" before nap time. While students are settling down onto their cots, dim the lights and read the story aloud. Alternate your voice to make the piggy characters come to life. It will prompt them to be quiet so they can listen. It also gives them something to concentrate on while they are trying to fall asleep.
Do a class skit of "The Three Little Pigs." Assign each student a part for the skit. If you have more students than characters, assign some students prop duty, costume designer or script card holder. Include all the students who want to participate. Perform the skit for other classes.
Use "The Three Little Pigs" in science to teach students all about pigs. Invite a farmer to bring in some baby pigs for students to play with. Let them draw pictures of the baby pigs. Have them cut out and glue labels on different parts of the pig.
Give "The Three Little Pigs" reading booklets to students during reading class. Take turns reading passages from the story. Students can highlight the words: pig, three and little. Teachers should add those highlighted words to the classroom word wall.
Make "The Three Little Pig" characters during art class. Print out several copies of the characters from the story. Have students color, then cut out the characters. Glue a Popsicle stick to the back of each cut out to create tiny puppets. If there is time, students can color and cut out the three little pig houses as well. Use googly eyes, glitter and fur to make the puppets more interesting.
