Give fourth-graders Sudoku puzzles to work on. Playing Sudoku gives kids a chance to practice numerical sequencing and reinforces deductive and inductive reasoning skills.
Have children play math tic-tac-toe. Give them a page with a tic-tac-toe grid on it. Each grid contains a math problem they must solve before placing an X or an O. Students can play in pairs or at home with family.
Give students a page that has two columns--one with unlabeled silhouettes of states and the other with state names. Have the children match them by drawing lines across the page. Make a similar matching page with capital and state names.
Print a paper "Traffic Jam" game board and paper pieces. The game is played much like the game "Rush Hour" and requires fourth-graders to strategically move pieces across the gridded board. The game can be played alone or with a partner. Laminate the pieces so they last longer and can be shared.
Give fourth-graders word searches, crossword puzzles and word scrambles to practice spelling and language. Write and custom design puzzles to complement any unit you're teaching.
Give fourth-graders mandala coloring sheets to reinforce a lesson about Tibetan culture and radial or circular balance. Teach them about color theory and ask them to color the mandala in a particular color scheme with colored pencils.
