How to Make a Capital W in Cursive

The cursive capital W is one of the easiest cursive letters and, when done correctly, one of the most beautiful. The biggest challenge when writing a cursive capital W is keeping the W from becoming too large. All children must learn cursive, but children whose name begins with a W must learn to write the letter W in cursive to sign their name correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin at the top guideline and make a small loop toward the left side of the page. Some cursive programs have eliminated the beginning loop.

    • 2

Continue the W by bringing the writing instrument to the bottom guideline. Curve the line towards the right and back up. The bottom curve should look like the bottom of the letter u.

    • 3

Bring the line back up to the top guideline. Students should practice stopping at the guideline.

    • 4

Draw the line back down to the bottom guideline. All pen strokes should remain smooth and without any sharp angles.

    • 5

Curve the line back up to the top of the guidelines. End the letter with a tail to the right of the letter.
