How to Change Fractions to Decimals & Percentages

The path from fraction to decimal and then to percent is a smooth and simple one. Fractions are values represented by an integer stacked upon another integer, with the upper one known as the numerator and the lower one the denominator. Fractions can be changed into decimals, in which the decimal point separates values both greater and less than one. Percentages are proportions that indicate a part of a total amount. Because each of these forms can represent a value that is proportional to another, you can easily change fractions into decimals and percentages.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a fraction for example use. For this example, let the fraction be 9/10.

    • 2

Divide the fraction's denominator into its numerator to change the fraction into a decimal. In this example, 9 divided by 10, or 9 ÷ 10, equals 0.9.

    • 3

Multiply the decimal by 100 and follow it with a percentage sign to change the decimal to a percent. Concluding this example, 0.9 multiplied by 100 equals 90, and attaching the percentage sign makes it "90%."
