How to Make Geometric Animals

Geometry is a skill covered throughout a child's elementary years, from learning basic shapes in preschool to determining the circumference of a circle in grade school. Use this geometry knowledge across subject lines with an art project. Add a bit of animal science and you have a project that covers many skills. With a few changes to alter the difficulty level, this activity can be suitable for preschoolers as well as older elementary school students.

Instructions

  1. Elephant

    • 1

Glue a large circle to the center of a piece of construction paper. Make sure the colors are contrasting so the elephant will stand out from the background.

    • 2

Attach a smaller circle to the right of the center one for the elephant's head. This can be the same color as the body, or a different color.

    • 3

Glue a small circle on top of the head as the ear. The final picture will be a view from the side of the elephant, so only one ear is necessary.

    • 4

Glue four rectangles onto the bottom of the body as legs. Use one rectangle as the trunk.

    Duck

    • 5

Place a large, yellow oval onto the table or glue to a sheet of paper.

    • 6

Glue two hearts upside down on either side of the body. These will be the duck's wings.

    • 7

Glue a small circle on top of the oval body for the duck's head. Another oval shape can be used instead of a circle depending on the shapes that are available.

    • 8

Add the duck's feet by gluing two small star shapes onto the bottom of the duck's body.

    • 9

Glue two small circles as eyes and a triangle for a beak onto the face of the duck. You may choose to use wiggly eyes instead of paper circles.

    Panda

    • 10

Glue a large white circle onto a sheet of colored construction paper. This will be the panda's face.

    • 11

Choose two small black circles and glue them onto the top of the white circle for ears.

    • 12

Glue two more small black circles onto the face. In the middle of those circles, glue two wiggly eyes.

    • 13

Take an even smaller circle and glue it onto the panda's face as a nose. Draw a mouth under it and your panda face is complete.
