How to Make Doll Cribs in Circle Time

Circle time is an educational and fun experience for children in school and day care. By encouraging hands-on craft projects while discussing a circle time theme, a teacher allows a child to use different learning methods to process the introduced information. Actively participating in the circle time theme will help the child absorb and retain the information. Making doll cribs during circle time is a project that reinforces many baby- or family-themed units. You can make simple doll cribs from shoe boxes or cardboard tubes and other inexpensive materials.

Instructions

  1. Making Shoe Box Cribs

    • 1

Place the shoe box onto a sheet of construction paper. Have the child trace around the four sides of the box, one at a time, drawing four rectangles. Any size shoe box will work, but a child size box will be more manageable for small hands and limited circle space.

    • 2

Cut out the rectangles from the construction paper with scissors. Supervise children too young to use safety scissors.

    • 3
Glue the construction paper rectangles to the shoe box sides.

Glue the rectangles to the corresponding side of the shoe box with school glue. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 4

Decorate the shoe box crib with crayons and stickers, or glue on fabric scraps or lace pieces with school glue.

    • 5

Place a bandanna in the shoe box for a blanket. Use another bandanna to cover a doll in the shoe box.

Making Cardboard Toilet Paper Tube Cradles

    • 6
Cut a cardboard tube in half to form two semicircle pieces.

Cut a cardboard toiler paper tube in half so the tube is in two semicircle pieces.

    • 7

Glue the backs of the cardboard tubes together with school glue. Allow the glue to dry. The top half is the bed and the bottom half will sit flat on a surface to support the cradle.

    • 8
Use facial tissue as a baby blanket in your doll crib or cradle.

Decorate with crayons and stickers, or glue on fabric or lace pieces. Use a facial tissue for a baby blanket. According to Preschool Education, you can use a peanut for a baby. Preschool Education suggests drawing a face on the peanut with a marker.
