4th Grade Elementary Crafts

By using arts and crafts as a method to teach students about other cultures you will make learning more interesting for them. Crafts can be used as visual aids to help students understand parts of different cultures. These crafts will also teach students to how to measure, cut and paste precisely.
  1. Mexican Aluminum Ornament Craft

    • You will need the following for this project: aluminum roasting pans, cardboard, scissors, permanent markers, a nail, and paper clips. Draw shapes, such as a sun, animal or flower onto the aluminum. Cut out the design with scissors. Place the cutout on cardboard for cushioning and use a nail to make impressions. Use markers to add colorful designs to the ornament. Make a small hole at the top of the ornament with the nail. Feed paper clip through the hole to hang the decoration from.

    Oriental Paper Lanterns

    • You will need the following materials for this project: construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers. Fold the construction paper in half. Cut small slashes in the construction paper at even intervals. Slashes should be about 1 1/2 inches in diameter each. Decorate paper with markers. Roll paper into a tube so that the slashes are vertical. Glue paper together at the seem. Hold the paper tube in shape until the glue is dry.

    Prehistoric Cave Paintings

    • You will need the following materials for this project: butcher paper, charcoal or willow sticks, card stock paper, brown and red oil pastel or crayons, pencil, and scissors. Draw animal shapes on card stock paper. Cut out the shapes to use as stencils. Tear away edges of butcher block paper and smear with charcoal to create an aged look. Using stencils and charcoal, create a design on butcher paper. Blend the animals outlines, pushing charcoal outward so that the animal's center is blank. Use crayons to add additional detail to the drawing.

    Totem Pole

    • You will need the following materials for this project: empty paper towel roll, construction paper, scissors, glue, markers, and Popsicle sticks. Wrap construction paper around paper towel roll. Fold excess paper back and use scissors to cut the seam. Fold construction paper into four sections, length wise. Draw a different animal face in the center of each section. Color in with markers. Wrap the construction paper back around the paper towel roll and glue at the seem. Draw wing or arms for animal, cut them out and glue them to the totem pole. Glue two Popsicle sticks to the bottom of the pole to keep it upright.
