Host an assembly for your school and hire a magician to perform tricks. Many magicians work at school events, demonstrating classic tricks such as the rabbit in the hat or handkerchief illusions to capture the attention of students and make them laugh. Most students will welcome a break from the day's work to attend a magic show assembly.
Inform students that a specific school day has been designated as Harry Potter day. Encourage students to dress up as their favorite Harry Potter character. Ask teachers to do the same and conduct class as if it was held in Hogwarts, the fictional school made famous by the series. Hold a screening of a Harry Potter movie in a classroom or the cafeteria so that students who are unfamiliar with the series do not feel left out. Depending on your student body, you may need parental permission slips before role playing wizardry or sorcery with students.
Hold a medieval festival at your school. A medieval-themed event does not have to be school-wide and can be held for a particular class that is studying medieval times. Make the event entertaining to students by hiring impersonators or asking teachers to conduct the class as if it were the dark age. Add a magic theme by teaching students about superstitions and beliefs in magic during medieval times. Teach them about Merlin the wizard and find someone to dress up as Merlin and interact with the students. Add an element of humor by asking Merlin to cast spells on the students such as "eternal good study habits."
Host a science fair that emphasizes the seemingly magical properties of physics and other sciences. Ask students to prepare experiments that seem to defy the norms of the physical world. Students can present their experiments at the fair and explain to others that it is not magic that is causing the effects but physics. For example, students can demonstrate and explain sublimation with dry ice. Such an event is both fun and educational.
