How to Make Addition Flashcards

Flashcards are a versatile tool to have when training young children. They are easy to read, can be tailor-made to suit any child's needs, and create bonding moments between parent and child or teacher and child. Unlike some computer programs, they can be used in any setting, whether in the park, in the car, at the beach or, if they are laminated, even in the rain. You can create addition flashcards by hand, with a computer program or online.

Instructions

  1. Make Flashcards by Hand

    • 1

Create a list with the addition table that you are going to use on your flashcards. Make a check mark next to each one as you create them, so that you don't repeat a card.

    • 2

Write out the questions in large numbers on one side of an index card using a permanent marker. For example:

      10 + 9

Write the answer on the flip side of the same card. For example:

      = 19

Consider writing the answers in a noticeably different color to differentiate them from the questions.

    • 3

Set aside in a finished pile and create the remaining cards. Wrap the cards with a runner band or place them in an envelope for safekeeping.

Create Flashcards with a Software Program

    • 4

Purchase card stock that can be used in a printer. Look for card stock that is perforated and can be separated into four to six pieces.

    • 5

Use your computer's software program to create the flashcards, such as with a label-making program. Launch your software program by clicking in the "Start" menu or on a desktop icon.

    • 6

Click "New" to launch a new document. Scroll down to "Labels" and choose a layout that has a four or six section setup.

    • 7

Fill in the questions on each section and print them out.

    • 8

Create the answers on a new label document page.

    • 9

Flip the paper with the questions over in the print tray and print again with the answers on the opposite side of the questions. Verify that the answers match the questions. Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 as needed.

    Make Flashcards Online

    • 10

Go to a flashcard website and locate their flashcard maker.

    • 11

Input your questions in the question boxes and the answers in the corresponding answer boxes.

    • 12

Follow their instructions for printing your flashcards.
