Is it legal to homeschool in Iceland?

Homeschooling is legal in Iceland. The Icelandic Education Act of 1996 established the right to homeschool, stating that "compulsory education may be provided by the municipality or by a private individual as long as it meets the requirements of this act." The act further outlines that homeschooling must include the same subjects and number of hours as public schooling, as well as regular evaluations to ensure that students are meeting the same academic standards.
