Establish a time frame for your playgroup. Sometimes this can be put to a vote with parents that are involved in the playgroup. For now we will say 2 hours once a week.
Run the playgroup with fun activities for the first hour. This can include making a weekly theme, or activities to keep on track the skills that need to be developed.
Reserve the next 1/2 hour for parents and children to utilize the library and check out a book and a toy to borrow.
Clean up is done for the next 5 minute segment. This generally takes 5 minutes, but you may adjust the time, depending on the number of children that have participated in the playgroup on that day.
"Circle time" happens in the next 10 minute segment. This includes singing and dancing to various children's movement songs. This will help get the wiggles out before sitting down for a story.
Calm the children down by having "story time" as the final part of the playgroup and to signal that playgroup is almost done. Preferably 2 books to be read is best. This allows for you to provide a variety of storylines to hopefully target all of your audience.
