Smell jars, also known as smelling jars, are a fun activity for lessons about the sense of smell. Your preschool or kindergarten students will enjoy smelling each container and guessing which scent is which.
- Small containers with lids, (empty pill bottles, baby food jars, etc.)
- Cotton balls
- Rubbing alcohol
- Variety of spices, extracts and/or scented oils
- Cup or bowl

Pour about a cup of rubbing alcohol into a cup or bowl.

Dip each cotton ball into the the rubbing alcohol, one at a time.

Saturate the wet cotton ball with a spice, extract or scented oil.

Put each cotton ball into a small container and seal with a lid.
