Disassemble aspects of a newspaper into parts to create lesson plans. Write a lesson plan for each part: freedom of speech, responsible journalism, formatting a newspaper, research, writing, editing and layout.
Write down your objective: to teach children how to create a student newspaper. Include the estimated amount of time it will take to teach the lesson, the curriculum standards each lessons teaches, your objective and the items you will need.
Title each lesson. Write your name, the age of the students you are teaching and a short description of the lesson. You must base your lesson plans on the age of the students you are teaching.
Write down your ideas for relating each lesson to real life and explaining how the information will be used in the future. Write detailed, step-by-step instructional ideas. Create activities to guide students through the lesson. For example, give students newspapers and tell them to label the different parts of a newspaper article. Ask kids to read the newspaper and discuss the articles they found interesting or boring. Another idea is to contact your local newspaper and request a reporter or editor speak to the students.
Write homework assignments. Ask students to write interview questions and conduct an interview with a person of their choice. Pass out mistake-laden articles for students to correct. The assignment must match the lesson.
