Preschool Alphabet Art Ideas

Preschoolers, ages 3 and 4, are able to learn and absorb simple information such as the shapes and names of the letters of the alphabet. While preschoolers don't have a lengthy attention span, you can make learning more fun and interesting for them by incorporating art as you teach them about each letter.
  1. Letter Collage

    • Give preschoolers a large sheet of paper with a letter of the alphabet written on it, such as "A." Provide old magazines, child-safe scissors and glue sticks. Help the children identify pictures in the magazines that begin with the letter "A," cut them out and glue them to the paper to make a collage.

    Alphabet Poster

    • Place a large sheet of bulletin board paper on the floor as a background. Help preschoolers form their bodies to resemble each letter of the alphabet. Some letters might require more than one child to make. Take pictures of each letter of the alphabet formed by the children and attach the photos to a poster board or make a bulletin board display of the alphabet.

    Yarn Alphabet

    • Supply preschoolers with different lengths of colored yarn, construction paper and liquid school glue. Help them draw a letter on a piece of construction paper with glue. Assist them in placing yarn onto the glue to form the letter. This will create an artistic piece as well as teach children about how to form letters.
