Jesus was born as a baby and grew into a child just as each of us has. Explaining some of the events that took place in Jesus' life as a child will help children relate to him easier. Refer to Luke 2:41-52 for the lesson. Luke 2:40 "And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." Jesus was strong mentally and spiritually, obtained a strong wisdom/understanding and God was pleased with him for being obedient. This lesson will teach children the rewards from God for children who obey their parents and study His words. You can incorporate a song like, "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world." It is also an added bonus to use coloring pages to help the children further understand and add a picture to the lesson.
Jesus was known as a famous healer. He performed miracles on those who were in need. He healed disease, sickness and spiritual needs. Jesus performed these miracles to prove that he was sent from God. God gave him these powers and approved Jesus' actions. Jesus also healed children and loved children. Should your class ask if Jesus can heal them, present to them the opportunity to pray for healing. Jesus answers and heals through prayer. Sing the song "Jesus Loves Little Children." Follow up with coloring pages and quizzes to further help your children understand. Quote scripture of Matthew 4:23-24 and Matthew 8:1-4.
This is a great lesson to teach your children. Teach them the power of kindness through actions of Jesus. Jesus teaches us that it is great to love those who are nice to us but, to be like God, we are to love all. This includes those who are not so nice to us as well. If we do not allow the anger or hurt to show when someone is mean to us and we are to simply be kind to them, this is what God does. God loves and takes care of us all and sent His son to die for all of us, even those who were not nice to him. Jesus says we are to love everyone. Treat everyone with kindness and respect, this includes those who are not kind to us. Have your children perform a skit to better understand the concept that Jesus teaches. Refer to Matthew 5:43-48.
Jesus teaches us that we should not worry about what others do but only about our own actions. He teaches us that we often overlook our own faults and make a larger deal of other's faults. Jesus teaches each of us right from wrong strictly based on God's words and it is our job to worry most about ourselves and our own actions. He teaches us that we are not to judge others. Read to your class, Matthew 7:1-5, Luke 6:37-42. Sings songs like, "This Little Light of Mine." Deliver messages such as, John 7:24 "Judge not according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." Follow this lesson with a fun craft to help further understand.
