How Do I Get the Materials to Sign up for Home Schooling?

Home schooled children are still required, by law, to receive an education. Starting the process of signing up your child for home schooling may be intimidating. Don't be deterred; the sign up process is actually simple if you know where to start.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your state government's website. Find it by typing the name of your state into a browser or by using Google's eGovernment Search engine at www.google.com/unclesam.

    • 2

Click on the "Department of Education" section on your state government's website. Scan the page for a section on homeschooling requirements. Use the search box if you don't see a section on homeschooling. Click on the homeschool section once you find it.

    • 3

The section on homeschooling should direct you to contact your county's local education agency, or LEA. There should be a link or area where you can find the contact person for your area with an email address or phone number.

    • 4

Contact your LEA and ask for the materials needed to sign up your child for homeschooling. The LEA may fax or email the documents to you or tell you to visit your local Board of Education to pick up the materials.

    • 5

Request an address for the Board of Education to make it easier to find. You shouldn't need an appointment to pick up your materials. Just walk through the doors and tell the receptionist you are there to pick up homeschool sign-up forms.
