Gather pertinent photographs, art pieces and writing samples in one box or area. Ask your home school student to help as you categorize the pieces and select representative samples to go into your portfolio.
Purchase a book on home school portfolios that has template forms for your documents. Most of these books will give you template transcripts, activity lists, letters and other documents you need so that you can reproduce and fill in the information for your student.
Purchase course management system software, or join a website that offers templates and Internet hosting. Create a web-based e-portfolio.
Seek guidance from other home school teachers, particularly ones who have created portfolios for students in the past, as to what are the best items for the portfolio and what are most sought after by colleges.
Ask college admission counselors what documents and samples they would like to see in a portfolio, and create the notebook based on those recommendations.
