The SAT tests a student's knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge in three areas: critical reading, writing and mathematics. The College Board holds the SAT test on a Saturday several times a year. If you're unable to take the exam on a Saturday for religious reasons, you can request an accommodation to take the exam on a Sunday. You are permitted to take the SAT exam as many times as you want. Most students take the exam twice.
Most universities factor your SAT score with your grade-point average and extracurricular activities when making an admissions decision. Taking the SAT is a required part of completing a university application. Your score on the SAT doesn't guarantee acceptance to the college of your choice; however, a high SAT score carries significant weight in the admissions decision.
Similar to other students, a home-schooled student can register to take the SAT online or by mail. The registration form asks you to locate your high school and enter the appropriate high school code. According to the SAT, home-schooled students should enter 970000 for their high school code. The fee to register for the SAT is $49.
To take the SAT, you must bring an acceptable photo identification to verify your identity on the registration ticket. Appropriate forms of identification include a state-issued driver's license or a high school-issued student identification card. According to the SAT, home-schooled students can apply for a student ID from the nearest high school. SAT test centers recognize this ID as acceptable identification.
