Take a position (pro or con) on the quality of the community involvement you've observed and documented using surveys, resource articles and interviews to shape your perspective. State your thesis as a single sentence (e.g., "Six Reasons Why I Believe That Community Involvement is Declining in Our County"). Conceive a title that best describes your position, or wait until you complete the essay before extrapolating a title from the body of the text.

    • 2

Open a document in a word processing program. Set margins of 1-inch at the top and bottom of your 8-1/2-inch-by-11-inch page and 1-1/4-inch on both the left and right sides. Set spacing to "double." Avoid decorative fonts, choosing 12-point Times New Roman for the body of your essay. Place your name, date and school information, if applicable, flush left, and then center the title.

    • 3

Write a compelling introduction, explaining why you believe the current state of community involvement is, for example, in such disarray. Cite examples of meetings, events, situations and experiences that prove your position---low turnout, poor participation, badly organized efforts and other factors that reinforce your essay's point of view. Indent five spaces when you start new paragraphs.

    • 4

Make recommendations for improving community involvement. Be specific. Cite volunteerism, neighborhood cooperation, safety, security and social factors as examples of how to reverse the trend of low community involvement. Suggest ways to build enthusiasm once the community has rededicated itself to becoming more involved.

    • 5

Reiterate highlights of points made throughout the essay when you write your conclusion, reminding readers of the reasons community involvement dissipated over time and the ideas and concepts you've thought up to remedy the situation. Wrap up the essay on a dynamic, positive note.

    • 6

Use quotes, anecdotes and supporting facts and figures to prove that you're not the only person in the community who has become concerned about the lack of community spirit in your area. List supporting resources within the body of your essay and then create a bibliography of works cited.

    • 7

Create a cover page. Center the name of your essay in the middle of the page. Check your spelling and sentence structure. Chop long phrases into smaller bites of information so that the facts, figures and reasoning behind your community involvement essay are easy for all readers to understand.
