How to Write a Dramatic Essay

The dramatic essay describes an intense moment affecting you or someone else. Writing a dramatic essay can be entirely made up or can be based on real life events. Many dramatic essays are written in a story mode dressed up as an essay, while others are traditional essays. Dramatic topics may be personal, such as childhood memories or a romantic break-up; or public, such as natural disasters or war. Despite the glum topics, essays may include comedic elements as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Think of a dramatic event that occurred to you or someone else, or create a fictitious one. Write down your ideas to get a grasp of what your essay will discuss. Select your dramatic essay topic through the process of elimination by narrowing down suitable ideas from your list.

    • 2

Outline the essay with an introduction, body and conclusion. Determine what will make up each paragraph in the outline. If your dramatic essay is in the form of a story, outline the plot in fragments for your body paragraphs. If in typical essay form, format a list of points and sub-points to discuss in the body.

    • 3

Present the dramatic event in the introduction of your paper; discuss why the event is important.

    • 4

Describe in the body how the event affected you. For instance, provide evidence of your affected state by your reaction to the event and how your reaction differed from a normal reaction, if at all.

    • 5

Describe in the conclusion how the event changed you: Did you become a better person as a result of the event? If so, illustrate a point to prove your changed state.
