Ensure that your page settings are correct. When you open a new document in Microsoft Word, scroll to the "Page Layout" tab, which is the third tab to the right on the top section of the program. Make sure you are typing in "letter-sized" paper, which sets your margins at 8.5-by-11-inch paper. Margins should be set at one inch on all sides.
Select a traditional and easy to read font. Courier New, Times New Roman and Calibri are good choices because they are clear and contain no unnecessary frills that could hinder the editing process.
Insert page numbers on the pages. To do this, click on the "Insert" tab, which is the second tab to the right of the top panel. Select "Page Number" and you will be prompted to specify where you want the page numbers. This is up to you, but at the bottom of the page usually works best.
Save your work. Once everything is formatted, press the save button and decide what you want to save the book as. When you are ready, scroll up to page one and get to writing.
