The English language is a difficult language to master. There are words that can be pronounced different ways and have several different meanings. There are letters that make different sounds and letters that can be silent when in different words. And then there is punctuation--you can use a period or an exclamation point to make a statement. You can also use a comma or a semicolon, but which is easier to read? Semicolons are not too hard to use and can make reading a sentence much easier.

Diagram the two main ideas in the sentences and shorten them into individual clauses. Now you should have two independent clauses rather than two in mdependent sentences.

2
Start the sentence with the clause that has the main idea, then insert the semicolon followed by the second clause.

3
Insert a conjunctive adverb behind the semicolon if it seems to make the two clauses fit together more smoothly.
