Number your shelves. Attach a piece of paper to each shelf, containing its individual number.
Divide similar equipment into categories. For example, separate the drills from the hammers and the nail boxes from the bolt cases. Assign a letter to each team, such as "A" for drills and "B" for screwdrivers.
Place a write-on sticker on every piece of equipment. Write the letter of the group first and then the individual number of each tool. For instance, your large hammer can be "K-1" and your small hammer "K-2."
Put all equipment of a group on a single box and place them on a specific shelf. Each box must have a sticker with the group's letter on it.
Catalog your equipment on a notebook or spreadsheet software in alphabetical order. Write the name of the equipment first, before mentioning its specific attribute ("Screwdriver, Voltage testing" for example). This way, you can have all entries of the same group together.
Write the position of each equipment next to its entry. The shelf number comes first, followed by the equipment's composite number. For example, if the small hammer is on the second shelf, then its entry on the catalog must be "Hammer, Small: 2, K-2."
