How to Verify a CCNA ID Number

If you are hiring someone to work in your IT department, you may need an employee who is CCNA certified. CCNA is the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam, which certifies computer professionals to work with computer networks. Certification proves competency in networking concepts such as troubleshooting, installing, using and configuring networks. Cisco Systems is the organization that offers the certification. Before hiring a CCNA employee, you can verify that the certification is valid.

Ask the prospective employee for his CCNA certificate. The certificate will have list the date he took the CCNA exam. In place of a certificate, you can also look at a receipt for the date. The certification is only valid for three years, which means a date older than that renders the certification expired and invalid.

Look on the certificate for the CCNA validation number. This is the only place you can find this number. If the prospect cannot present a certificate, ask him to contact Cisco for a replacement so you may view it and get the CCNA validation number.

Visit the Cisco Certificates website (see Resources) and enter in the CCNA validation number, which is 16 digits. Once you do this, the validity of the number will be confirmed or denied on the screen. If you have any problems verifying the number, you can call Cisco at 800-553-6387 and give the validation number to the customer service representative.
