Place the title, as well as your name and personal information at the top of the analysis paper. Your name and personal information should fall in the lefthand corner of your analysis paper. The title of the document should be centered on the page underneath your personal information, but just before your introduction paragraph.
Include an attention grabber, background information and your thesis statement in your introduction paragraph, which comes at the beginning of the paper. In an analysis paper, your thesis statement should focus on the main argument you are going to make and support with analyses from the text. Your attention grabber can be a quote from the literature you will be analyzing or an interesting fact.
Incorporate at least three main arguments, with one paragraph devoted to each main argument. This section should include direct quotes and examples from the literature to back up your arguments. Remember to format each of these paragraphs with a topic sentence to keep your reader on track.
Finish your literary analysis with a conclusion paragraph that restates the thesis, wraps up any loose ends from your main body paragraphs and leaves the reader thinking about the information you presented. Although the thesis is restated in the conclusion, you should attempt to rewrite the thesis slightly to avoid repetition.
Incorporate any references, such as literature, that you used while writing your analysis into a Works Cited page at the end of your essay. This page should be formatted according to MLA or APA styles, depending on the specifications for your unique project.
Use 1-inch margins and double-space throughout your paper to maintain an organized and easy-to-read format for your audience. Include any other specific formatting guidelines that your teacher, professor or boss require.
