- Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
- Double-space all text, including quotations, references, and notes.
- Set 1-inch margins on all sides of your paper.
- Create a running header including the last name of the writer and the page number. The running header should start at the second page and be half an inch from the top.
- Indent the first line of each paragraph one-half inch.
- Avoid using hyphens at the end of lines.
* Your title page should include the following:
* The title of your paper, centered and in bold font
* Your name, centered below the title
* Your instructor's name, centered below your name
* The course title, centered below your instructor's name
* The date, centered below the course title
- MLA uses parenthetical citations within the text of your paper to indicate the source of the information.
- The in-text citation includes the last name of the author and the page number from which the information was taken.
- If the author's name is already mentioned in the text, cite only the page number.
- Multiple citations may be combined using a semicolon to separate each.
* If the title of the work is the name of a book, article, or website, italicize it.
* Include a URL or DOI if you access the article or website online.
- The Works Cited page lists all of the sources that you used in your paper, including books, articles, websites, and electronic sources.
- Create a new page, and title it "Works Cited"
- Double-space all entries.
- Begin each citation with a hanging indent; set the first line at 0.5 inches, with all other lines at zero inches.
- Place an alphabetical order based on the last names of authors of the sources cited.
- Follow capitalization and punctuation guidelines that are particular to each type of source.
