Join one or more of the Dudley Literacy Center's English language programs. English Conversation Groups for English as a Second Language individuals are led by a native English speaker. Adults with basic English skills can progress to reading and writing classes. Small tutoring groups with two to four students meet at any Boston Public Library location. The Auralog language program provides an opportunity to study English online. Participate in the program that best serves your needs as defined in consultation with the literacy coordinator.
Use the referral system at the Dudley Literacy Center to find additional resources to support and enhance your English learning experience. Find English learning resources both for individual and family English instruction through the referral program.
Identify other organizations that offer programs suitable to the individual English learner's needs. Contact organizations such as Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts, Literacy Volunteers of America and the National Center for ESL Literacy Education. Learn about their programs and enroll in additional programs that suit your needs.
As of 2010, school-age English as a Second Language learners have access under federal law to in-school programs for assistance in learning English, according to USA Today. Obtain additional English learning help, as needed, for school-age ESL students from the same resources that provide adult English learning programs, particularly those that address family literacy issues.
Consult the Dudley Literacy Center or librarians in other branches of the Boston Public Library for referrals to additional English learning programs offered by other libraries. These libraries may provide different learning programs than those offered by the Boston Public Library system. Many Massachusetts library systems offer their programs to residents of other communities through networks of cooperating libraries throughout the state.
