Check the center class schedule. Local community centers often provide a schedule regarding classes, celebrations and local community-related events. Many community centers post scheduling information on the center's bulletin board, on the center's website or in the community center's newsletter or magazine.
Contact the community center. Call or visit the community center's training office to obtain information on class times, associated fees and eligible participants. In addition, visit the classroom area while discussing past and future language training provided by the center.
Purchase a thesaurus and English language dictionary. Purchase a dictionary that provides direct translation from your native tongue to the English language. Purchase or check out an English thesaurus to aid in understanding word usage, synonyms and related terms.
Purchase note-taking material. Purchase a notebook to use for note taking and the recording of classroom instruction during the English course. If needed, purchase a notebook equipped with folders and document protectors to house course handouts.
Register. Call or visit the community center to sign up for the English class. If needed, pay the registration fee and fill out the sign-up and application forms. In addition, discuss the student responsibilities with the class organizers and collect the phone numbers and email addresses of key personnel.
Attend the training. Attend the classroom training for the duration of the English course. Participate in classroom discussion and pronunciation practice while attending after class study events and group meetings. Take notes on all aspects of the class and actively pursue additional training from the instructors if needed. Correspond with the instructors via email and visit the community center website often for updates and class schedule changes.
