Over the summer, some art farms open their doors as both day cares and extended stay camps, embracing the notion that children and young adults can benefit from directly gaining creative insight from nature. These summer camps hold daily art and craft sessions while also allowing for free time outdoors, or lessons about the farm itself and its animals.
Art farms that are open for residency provide both a living unit on the grounds as well as the atmosphere for creative development. Often open to both aspiring artists and established professionals, these art farms can be self-sustaining and both require labor and allow for free creative time.
Taking out the middle man, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms permit the consumer to deal directly with the grower and gain a better insight into how the food they're purchasing is grown. Some CSA farms have opened their doors to artists who are inspired by the fruits and vegetables being grown. These gardeners also consider themselves artists in their own right.
Including healthy snacks and garden explorations, children can continue to learn after the school day has ended by spending their afternoons outdoors. Often with scheduled classes, these after school programs that are held by art farms can enhance the creativity that may not be addressed during the typical school day.
