The Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program offered by Purdue University awards students who complete the course an Associate of Science degree. To participate in the course you will need a proctor, or person who ensures exam security. Your proctor can be a licensed veterinarian, a credentialed veterinary technician, or an educator that works in a school, college, or university. While it can be completed in a shorter time frame, on average it takes between 4 and 5 years to complete this program on a part-time basis.
Penn Foster College offers a Veterinary Technician program from which you earn an Associate of Science Degree upon successful completion. You can work at your own pace to complete this course, but it consists of four full-time semesters. Students must also complete nine weeks of hands-on training at an approved site.
Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program, or DEVTP offers an Associate of Science degree. DEVTP offers three 12-week terms each year and the program can be completed in as little as two years. You must have a designated preceptor to participate in this program. A preceptor is a veterinarian, graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program, or a technician with credentials. The course work for this program is not self-paced. Work is expected to be completed on the outlined course schedule. This course is also accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, or AAHA.
The Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program offered by San Juan college offers an Associate of Applied Science to those who complete the course. The program consists of four levels that each take 12 weeks to complete. You are required to have a veterinarian or a credentialed veterinary technician as your preceptor for the course. The college requires the preceptor to verify that written assignments have been completed and to administer and monitor certain exams. You also need to complete an OCCI, or off-campus clinical instruction, at a site approved during the enrollment process.
