How to Invest in Education-Related Facilities

Colleges, high schools and other educational institutions often need to add buildings and land to accommodate growing enrollment numbers. While some institutions finance these additions on their own through loans or savings, many seek financial support from individual donors and contributors. You can make a difference and help your local school by learning how to invest in education-related facilities.

Instructions

    • 1

Donate money. Contact members of the school's foundation office and let them know you want to donate money to their institution. Specify a facility or purpose for the money, if you desire. Provide the school with your donation via check, electronic transfer or cash and receive a slip of paper with the information you need to deduct your donation from your taxes.

    • 2

Provide in-kind contributions. Volunteer your services and skills to the foundation office. Contribute your construction or building skills if the school needs assistance remodeling or making repairs to the educational facility. If you're not good with your hands but are an excellent speaker, volunteer to speak to civic groups about investing in the school. Using you to complete work allows the educational institution to save money because it doesn't have to hire and pay someone else to do it.

    • 3

Host a fundraiser. Brainstorm ideas of fundraisers you could host to get people to invest in the education facility. Meet with representatives from the school's foundation office to get their endorsement for your fundraiser. Use a committee to assist in coordinating and executing the fundraiser on behalf of the school.

    • 4

Establish long-term investments. Discuss what opportunities are available for long-term investing in the educational institution by visiting with a foundation officer. Learn how to establish a scholarship, annuity or other financial investment to provide money for the school for many years.
