Study your list of words if you are provided with one. For some bilingual spelling bees, contestants are provided with a list of words in each language to study several weeks or months before the competition. If you are not provided with a list, try to use your textbooks and other available resources to compile a list of words you expect to be included in the bee.
Employ word-picture association to help you remember. Associate foreign words with their English translations. Picture the English word as you say the word in a foreign language. Then, picture what the word is. For example, when you say "casa" in Spanish, picture your house. "Casa" means "house" in English.
Make flash cards. Flash cards can be a great way to prepare for a bilingual spelling bee. On one side of the flashcard, write the foreign word; on the other, the English translation. Ask someone to test you using the flash cards.
Practice, practice, practice. The more practice time you can get in, the more prepared you will be for the bilingual spelling bee. Try to get in at least an hour of practice every day in the weeks leading up to the competition.
